Winter 2 - Soccer Games 0

This week Mother Nature proved her power as we had our game at Riverton postponed both on Thursday, due to road closures and snow, and on Friday due to freezing temperatures. We plan to play this game versus Riverton later on in the season. We are setting the game on the 14th of April in Riverton. Up Next: JV Tigers at Green River Monday March 30th at 5:00pm. Varsity Tigers versus Green River in Rock Springs on Tuesday March 31st at 5:00pm (Weather permitting)

Game this Week

We were lucky enough to get a game scheduled this week on such short notice. The RS Tigers will be traveling to Riverton WY on Thursday March 26th to play both a JV and Varsity game. The JV game will be played at 3:00pm and the varsity game will be at 5:00pm. Thanks to the RSHS Athletic Director Mr. Maloney for working hard to help out the team get a game. The game and monthly schedules have been updated to show this change, links on the right.

Schedule Update

We have two schedule updates for the spring 2009 season to announce. First of all the game versus Laramie in Laramie on Friday 3/27/09 has been canceled. This game was canceled due to a scheduling conflict that Laramie High had. We are working to find a replacement game on short notice for this week. We will update when plans are secure. Second of all our game at Star Valley that was on Wednesday April 22nd has been changed. The game will now be played in Star Valley on Friday April 17th. The times are still the same at 3:00pm JV and 5:00pm Varsity

RS Tigers Win One and Drop Two at Worland

On Saturday the Varsity team played three matches at the Worland Jamboree. The first match was against the Lander Tigers, this match was a full eighty minute match. Rock Springs came out of the gate very hesitant but later controlled most of the run of play. However Lander was able to score on there opportunities and Rock Springs could not. Lander scored in the 9th minute of the game and again in the 51st minute of the game. Rock Springs out shot the Lander Tigers 19 - 11 in the game. Bryce Kalista had 7 saves in the net for Rock Springs. Man of the Match - Gilbert Gonzalez (6 shots and 1 meg) The second match of the day was against the defending 3A state champion Cody Broncs. This was a 40 minute game or half game. The Tigers looked poor in this game, lacking intensity, communication and as a team not keeping to their formation. JV Tigers Show Well in Jamboree

Riverton , Wyoming- The Tigers started sluggishly against Lander on Saturday morning. Lander controlled the game from the first whistle and scored in the eleventh minute, as the Lander keeper launched a huge kick that was chased down and scored over Gus Wagner. Showing a resilience, that hopefully becomes a Tiger trademark, Rock Springs evened the score in five minutes. Taking a corner kick from Josh Hall, Rolando Gallarza scored the first goal of his Tiger career by placing a laser in the lower right corner, in the sixteenth minute. One minute later, Santiago Flores put the Tigers up for good, as he scored on another corner kick from Josh Hall. In the twentieth minute, Eric Corley , scored the third and final goal as he placed a penalty kick into the net. Lander put scored another goal in the 43rd minute to tighten the score, but solid defense and goalkeeping secured Rock Springs first win of the season. 2009 First Week

The first week of practice was wrapped up with the annual Orange and White scrimmage. The 2009 Rock Springs Tiger Soccer team is 40 players strong. The Varsity Captains were announced on Monday with Gilbert Gonzalez, Garrett Hay, Erick Mata and Luke Aust getting enough of their teammate's votes to be appointed as captains. On Saturday the team was divided into 2 teams and played a full 80 minute game. The White team was victorious coming away with a 4 to 0 win. Players on the White team were Garrett Hay, Gilbert Gonzalez, Wes Magagna, Matt Lehman, Cody Rall, Austin Lever, Pat Walker, Daulton Grube, Tevin Beaver, Kortny Lancaster, Alex Arambel, Kohl Stewart, Dakota Schneider, Rolando Gallarza and Santiago Flores. Gus Wagner and Tyler Wilkinson combined for a shutout victory as the White teams keepers. Goals were scored by Daulton Grube, Tevin Beaver, Gilbert Gonzalez and Matt Lehman.
