RS Plays Better But Wolves Prevail

On Thursday at Crossroads Park in Rock Springs the RS Tigers faced their arch rivals the GR Wolves in the second leg of the Sweetwater Cup. The Tigers were looking to avenge their earlier embarrassing defeat by upsetting the Wolves. This match was a classic rivalry match and saw the Tigers come to play for 80 minutes. However the Wolves got on the board first when the initial GR shot was saved by Gus Wagner but the deflection found a Wolves' feet and he scored in the 19th minute of play. This was the only score in the first half. The Tigers did see a couple of legitimate chances in the first 40 minutes of play including a header by Alex Arambel. The Tigers game plan seemed to be working as the heavily favored Wolves were frustrated in the 2nd half by the improved play of the Tigers. Then Green River sealed their win by two goal, one in the 61st minute and the other in the 69th minute. The Tigers kept trying and pressing forward to get a goal or two and get into the match but attempts by Riley Yerkovich, Jesse Love, Storie Ratcliff and Pat Walker just could not find the net. The final score was GR 3 - RS 0. The loss puts the Tiger's record at 3 - 6 - 1 and 2 - 4 - 0 in the 4A West Conference race.

Game Stats - Shots; RS 7, GR 12 - Assists; RS 0, GR 3 - Saves; RS 5, GR 4 - Corner Kicks; RS 4, GR 4 - Cards; RS 0, GR 2

Man of the Match - Riley Yerkovich for 80 great and solid minutes of play and superb leadership.

On Monday in Rock Springs the JV Tigers and Wolves squared off again for the second time in less than a week. Green River scored in the 26th minute to start the scoring. Tyler Legerski tied the score off an assist from Jake Jessen in the 38th to tie the score at half. Green River won in the 73rd off an indirect kick in the box to win 2-1.

Man of the Match- Jake Jessen- excellent defense and earning his first offensive point of career.

Spring Break and Schedule Changes

The games versus Green River that were originally scheduled during our Spring Break have been re-scheduled. We will now have the JV game on March 30 at 5pm in Green River with the Varsity Game being March 31st at 5pm in Rock Springs. We still have our two home matches against the Casper schools (KW and NC) the first weekend of spring break (4/3, 4/4). These matches will be very important for our seeding at regionals. The team also is scheduled to practice on Monday and Tuesday of spring break, but will get the rest of the week off. Please make your family plans so that the can coincide with the team plans. The changes to the game schedule and the practice schedule have been changed on their own links, see the links to your right.

1st Practice is Monday

Monday March 8th will be the first practice for the 2010 edition of the RSHS Tiger Soccer Team. The practice will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and will be held at the football field behind White Mountain Elementary field. All players need to remember their paperwork (physical, activities release, emergency card and proof of insurance) and their equipment (soccer cleats, shin guards, outdoor clothes and water). In the case of inclement weather, could we please have the students listen to the announcements at school or contact Coach Atkinson at the high school on Monday after lunch (room 304a).

Rivalry Games Postponed

Due to the snow and the inability to prepare our fields we had to postpone both the Varsity and JV matches with Green River earlier this week. These games will be re-scheduled at the earliest chance that we can fit it into our schedules. We are still hopeful that we will be able to play our next two home games against Natrona County on Friday April 3rd - JV - 3:00pm and Varsity 5:00pm and against Kelly Walsh on Saturday April 4 th - JV - 10:00am and Varsity 12:00pm.
