Tigers Take Home Second from Regionals



In Evanston the Tigers played three games in three days and were able to not only secure their birth at the state tournament but also to advance to the Regional Championship Game.

On Thursday the Tigers offense exploded and scored 6 goals against the Star Valley Braves. Goals were from, Ron Halstead (2), Erik Stembridge, Kevin Gold, Gilbert Gonzalez and Storie Ratcliff. The Braves were able to sneak in one goal before the end, so the Tigers settled for a 6 to 1 win. This victory gave the Tigers an automatic birth at the state tournament.

Varsity - (7 - 5 - 3)



On Friday, the Tigers squared off against Natrona County for a thrilling two to one overtime victory. The Tigers first goal came from Kyle Howe quickly followed by an equalizer by the Mustangs. In the second overtime period Kevin Gold scored on a penalty kick with about thirty seconds to go. This victory advanced the Tigers to the Regional Championship, their first Regional Championship game since 2004.

Varsity - (8 - 5 - 3)



On Saturday, the Kelly Walsh Trojans were just a little too much for the Tigers in the Regional Championship game. The Trojans took an early lead and added another early second half goal to cement their win. The Tigers did fight very hard and were able to get a goal from Ron Halstead to put some pressure on Kelly Walsh. But in the end it was the Trojans winning two to one.

Varsity - (8 - 6 - 3)

Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win. Varsity (0 - 3 - 2) Next up for the JV and Varsity at Casper Natrona Friday at 3:00pm and 5:00pm

Tigers Offensive Explosion Beats the Braves

On Friday, the Tigers showcased their offense with a commanding 7 to 2 victory over the visiting Star Valley Braves. Gilbert Gonzalez had a hat trick in the first half and helped Rock Springs to a 3 to 1 half time lead. The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second half as Kevin Gold, Erick Mata, Ron Halstead and Storie Ratcliff all got a goal. Kevin Gold had three assists, Jack Wells had one, Gilbert Gonzalez also had one assist as did Austin Mivshek and Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers looked very dominant on the pitch and were able to play all of their reserves also. The win brings the Tigers conference record to 3 - 2 and to third place in the conference. They have a chance with a win next week to jump into second place. Varsity - 3 - 4 - 2 In the junior varsity game the JV Tigers scored early and often on the JV Braves and won by a score of 10 to 5. Atkinson Returns to Tiger Coaching Staff in 2020

After a 10 year hiatus, Coach Jeff Atkinson rejoins the Rock Springs High Boy's Soccer Team Coaching Staff.  Atkinson coached the Tigers from the spring of 2002 until the spring of 2010.  Atkinson served as an Assistant/JV coach from three seasons (2002 - 2004) and then led the RSHS Varsity team for 6 seasons (2005 - 2010). Coach Atkinson is super excited to coach the Orange and Black again.  He would like to thank Lyndon Klein and Thomas Jassman for this amazing opportunity.  Atkinson is very excited to work closely with Head Coach Klein and fellow Assistant Coach Daniel Moreno.
