Tigers Lose to Riverton in Overtime

On Saturday in Senior Night in Rock Springs the Tigers played their last home match at Crossroads Field versus the #2 ranked Riverton Wolverines. The Tigers were looking to avenge their earlier embarrassing result against the Wolverines. The Tigers played a great match even with a lot of players out of position and some young guys filling in for some veterans missing and hurt. The scoring started by the Wolverines in the 34th minute when Riverton was awarded a penalty kick and converted it. The half time score was 1 - 0 in favor of Riverton. The Tigers played better in the second half than in the first half and had several decent chances to tie the match. A free kick by Kortny Lancaster in the 75th minute from around 45 yards away roofed the Riverton keeper in the top right corner and equaled the score. Neither team was able to score in the last 5 minutes, mainly due to some strong goal keeping from both Gus Wagner of Rock Springs and Riverton's goalkeeper.

The teams played overtime, which in high school soccer consists of 2 ten minute halves played in their entirety regardless of score or scoring. Riverton scored in the first half of overtime in the 84th minute off of another penalty kick. The Wolverines held a 2 - 1 lead at the halftime break in overtime. The Tigers worked real well together and played very hard but could not come up with another score. The Wolverines added an insurance goal in the 99th minute off of a corner kick to take the final lead of 3 to 1. The loss was tough on our 11 seniors but they can hold their heads high after playing so well. The seniors honored were Camilo Anturi, Luke Aust, Matt Lehman, Jesse Love, Alyssa Meyers, Sean Parker, Henry Pedraza, Courtney Pridmore, Pat Walker, McKade Wells and Riley Yerkovich. The loss brings the Tiger's record down to 3 - 8 - 1 and 2 - 6 - 0 in the 4A West.
