On Thursday the Tigers played against the Evanston Red Devils in an elimination game played in Afton. The Tigers came out victorious against Evanston by a score of 4 to 0. Erick Mata scored the lone goal of the first half in the fifteenth minute. Erick Mata added his second goals in the second half less than a minute after the restart. Storie Ratcliff had a goal and an assist in the match. Garrett Hay had two assists and Pat Walker finished off the scoring for the Tigers. As RS ended the Red Devil's season and punched the Tiger's ticket to the State Soccer Cup. Matt Lehman also added an assist during the match. The win improved the Tigers record to 10 wins and 5 losses. Man of the match - Erick Mata (Two goals)
In the second game at regionals played on Friday the Rock Springs Tigers squared off against their Sweetwater County rivals the Green River Wolves in Afton. The Wolves took an early lead in the game and never looked back scoring in the eleventh minute and the seventh minute off of a penalty kick. The lead held for the Wolves who scored two more goals in the second half in the 59th and 68th minute. The Tigers finally got on the board in the 73rd minute when Matt Lehman scored off of a Tevin Beaver long throw in. The final tally stood at 4 to 1. It just seemed that the Tiger could not generate enough legitimate chances on the Wolves to stay in the match. The loss brings the Tiger's record to 10 wins and six losses, the loss also has the Tigers playing in the 3rd and 4th place match against Kelly Walsh. Man of the Match - Matt Lehman (the only goal and his second of the season against GR)
In the final game for the Tigers at Regionals on Saturday they played against the Kelly Walsh Trojans for 3rd place. The first half was hard fought and saw very few chance from either squad. The second half saw many more chance and the Trojans used theirs to a maximum. The Trojans scored three goals while the Tigers could not muster a goal. The Trojans scored in the 49th minute, the 51st minute and right before the final whistle in the 80th minute. Much like the previous match the shots were almost the same as were the goalie saves it was just a matter of the other squad finishing their opportunities. The loss has the Tigers seeded 4th out of the west for the State Cup and they will play the #1 seeded team out of the east the first match of state. The Tiger's record falls to 10 wins and seven losses.
