Tigers Get 4th at Regionals and Qualify for State



On Thursday the Tigers played against the Evanston Red Devils in an elimination game played in Afton. The Tigers came out victorious against Evanston by a score of 4 to 0. Erick Mata scored the lone goal of the first half in the fifteenth minute. Erick Mata added his second goals in the second half less than a minute after the restart. Storie Ratcliff had a goal and an assist in the match. Garrett Hay had two assists and Pat Walker finished off the scoring for the Tigers. As RS ended the Red Devil's season and punched the Tiger's ticket to the State Soccer Cup. Matt Lehman also added an assist during the match. The win improved the Tigers record to 10 wins and 5 losses. Man of the match - Erick Mata (Two goals)




In the second game at regionals played on Friday the Rock Springs Tigers squared off against their Sweetwater County rivals the Green River Wolves in Afton. The Wolves took an early lead in the game and never looked back scoring in the eleventh minute and the seventh minute off of a penalty kick. The lead held for the Wolves who scored two more goals in the second half in the 59th and 68th minute. The Tigers finally got on the board in the 73rd minute when Matt Lehman scored off of a Tevin Beaver long throw in. The final tally stood at 4 to 1. It just seemed that the Tiger could not generate enough legitimate chances on the Wolves to stay in the match. The loss brings the Tiger's record to 10 wins and six losses, the loss also has the Tigers playing in the 3rd and 4th place match against Kelly Walsh. Man of the Match - Matt Lehman (the only goal and his second of the season against GR)


In the final game for the Tigers at Regionals on Saturday they played against the Kelly Walsh Trojans for 3rd place. The first half was hard fought and saw very few chance from either squad. The second half saw many more chance and the Trojans used theirs to a maximum. The Trojans scored three goals while the Tigers could not muster a goal. The Trojans scored in the 49th minute, the 51st minute and right before the final whistle in the 80th minute. Much like the previous match the shots were almost the same as were the goalie saves it was just a matter of the other squad finishing their opportunities. The loss has the Tigers seeded 4th out of the west for the State Cup and they will play the #1 seeded team out of the east the first match of state. The Tiger's record falls to 10 wins and seven losses. Man of the Match - Alex "Goon" Arambel (Freshman getting his first varsity start and playing well at defense) Up Next the Tigers travel to state in Sheridan on Thursday May 21st - Saturday May 23rd.

Schedule Update

We have two schedule updates for the spring 2009 season to announce. First of all the game versus Laramie in Laramie on Friday 3/27/09 has been canceled. This game was canceled due to a scheduling conflict that Laramie High had. We are working to find a replacement game on short notice for this week. We will update when plans are secure. Second of all our game at Star Valley that was on Wednesday April 22nd has been changed. The game will now be played in Star Valley on Friday April 17th. The times are still the same at 3:00pm JV and 5:00pm Varsity

Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win. Varsity (0 - 3 - 2) Next up for the JV and Varsity at Casper Natrona Friday at 3:00pm and 5:00pm
