Tigers Open Conference with a Win

On Tuesday in Rock Springs, the Tigers opened the 2009 4A West Conference play with a 1 - 0 victory over the visiting Kelly Walsh Trojans. The Tigers scored the lone goal of the match when Gilbert Gonzalez's shot deflected off of a Kelly Walsh defender and into the goal in the 36th minute. The Tigers played against the wind in the second half and were able to with hold the Trojan attack and hang onto the one goal win.
Man of the Match: Gilbert Gonzalez (6 shots and one lucky bounce)
The JV version of the Tigers squandered a two goal lead while the wind aided the KW comeback in the second half. Kelly Walsh JV won the match 3 to 2. Goals for the Tigers were Josh Hall and Rolando Gallarza.
Up Next for the Tigers: Wednesday at Evanston JV - 3:00pm and Varsity 5:00pm.

We have two schedule updates for the spring 2009 season to announce. First of all the game versus Laramie in Laramie on Friday 3/27/09 has been canceled. This game was canceled due to a scheduling conflict that Laramie High had. We are working to find a replacement game on short notice for this week. We will update when plans are secure. Second of all our game at Star Valley that was on Wednesday April 22nd has been changed. The game will now be played in Star Valley on Friday April 17th. The times are still the same at 3:00pm JV and 5:00pm Varsity

Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win. Varsity (0 - 3 - 2) Next up for the JV and Varsity at Casper Natrona Friday at 3:00pm and 5:00pm
