Tigers Back in the Win Column versus Powell


On Saturday in Worland the Rock Springs Tigers took on the Powell Panthers. This match saw the Tigers open sluggishly and fall behind Powell at the half one to nothing. The Powell goal was scored off a free kick. Tyler Wilkinson the Tiger freshman keeper making his first varsity start just could not get to the free kick. The Tigers came out on fire in the second half scoring in the first minute after halftime when Riley Yerkovich passed to Erick Mata who rocketed the ball to the bottom left corner. Fifteen minutes later, in the 56th minute the Tigers found net again when Tevin Beaver collected a pass from Garrett Hay on a through ball and Tevin placed the ball between the keepers legs. The third and final score for the Tigers was from Storie Ratcliff who also was assisted by Garret Hay. Ratcliff's goal came in the 76th minute to ice the non conference game for Rock Springs. This win improves the Varsity record to 5 - 4 - 0. Man of the Match; Garrett Hay (2 assists and great offensive work).
Earlier in the day the JV Tigers played against the Powell Panthers. The Panthers struck first for an early lead of one to zero. The Tigers scored late in the first half to even the score before the break. Right before the end of regulation the Tigers scored again from a set piece to take the 2 to 1 victory. The JV record now stands at 7 - 1 - 1.

Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win. Tigers Offensive Explosion Beats the Braves

On Friday, the Tigers showcased their offense with a commanding 7 to 2 victory over the visiting Star Valley Braves. Gilbert Gonzalez had a hat trick in the first half and helped Rock Springs to a 3 to 1 half time lead. The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second half as Kevin Gold, Erick Mata, Ron Halstead and Storie Ratcliff all got a goal. Kevin Gold had three assists, Jack Wells had one, Gilbert Gonzalez also had one assist as did Austin Mivshek and Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers looked very dominant on the pitch and were able to play all of their reserves also. The win brings the Tigers conference record to 3 - 2 and to third place in the conference. They have a chance with a win next week to jump into second place. Varsity - 3 - 4 - 2 In the junior varsity game the JV Tigers scored early and often on the JV Braves and won by a score of 10 to 5. Varsity Split games on Casper Road Swing

The varsity RS Tiger soccer squad got their much needed first victory of the season when they defeated Natrona County High in Casper on Friday. Kyle Howe scored the lone goal of the game in the second half with an assist credited to Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers played well in most aspects of the game and Tyler Hamilton recorded his first clean sheet of the season. On Saturday the Tigers were defeated by the defending state champions Kelly Walsh Trojans zero to one. The game was tied at half time and KW used the wind at their back well in the second half. Just three minutes into the second half the trojans scored off of a 30 yard shot. The tigers could not muster much offense into the wind and played well just not well enough to win. Varsity - (1 - 4 - 2) Over the weekend the junior varsity team dropped both games. They lost 0 - 2 to Natrona and 3 - 5 to Kelly Walsh.
