Tigers Survive Trip to Star Valley


On Friday in Afton, the Tigers defeated the Star Valley Braves in overtime by a score of 2 to 1. The first half was scoreless and the Braves scored first in the 48th minute. The Tigers responded with a goal in the 49th minute by Seth Hawk, who was assisted by Erick Mata. There was no more scoring in regulation and the Tigers and Braves went to overtime. In the first of two 10 minute periods, the Tiger took the lead with a Ron Halstead goal, assisted by Seth Hawk. The Tigers were able to protect the lead and take the victory. With the victory the Tigers know they will not finish lower than third in the region. The Tigers fate will be determined when Kelly Walsh and Natrona square off against each other tomorrow (game originally scheduled for Friday). If the Tigers end up in second place in the region they will receive the automatic birth to state and will play Friday at 5:00pm versus the winner of the NC and Star Valley game. If the Tigers fall to third then they will face Star Valley again on Thursday at 5:00pm with the winner advancing to state.

The JV Tigers finished out there season with another W in the win column as they defeated the JV Braves 4 to 2. Goal scorers were Storie Ratcliff and Christian Mendoza.

Schedule Update

We have two schedule updates for the spring 2009 season to announce. First of all the game versus Laramie in Laramie on Friday 3/27/09 has been canceled. This game was canceled due to a scheduling conflict that Laramie High had. We are working to find a replacement game on short notice for this week. We will update when plans are secure. Second of all our game at Star Valley that was on Wednesday April 22nd has been changed. The game will now be played in Star Valley on Friday April 17th. The times are still the same at 3:00pm JV and 5:00pm Varsity

Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win. Varsity (0 - 3 - 2) Next up for the JV and Varsity at Casper Natrona Friday at 3:00pm and 5:00pm
