Tigers Offensive Explosion Beats the Braves


On Friday, the Tigers showcased their offense with a commanding 7 to 2 victory over the visiting Star Valley Braves. Gilbert Gonzalez had a hat trick in the first half and helped Rock Springs to a 3 to 1 half time lead. The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second half as Kevin Gold, Erick Mata, Ron Halstead and Storie Ratcliff all got a goal. Kevin Gold had three assists, Jack Wells had one, Gilbert Gonzalez also had one assist as did Austin Mivshek and Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers looked very dominant on the pitch and were able to play all of their reserves also. The win brings the Tigers conference record to 3 - 2 and to third place in the conference. They have a chance with a win next week to jump into second place.

Varsity - 3 - 4 - 2

In the junior varsity game the JV Tigers scored early and often on the JV Braves and won by a score of 10 to 5. Goal scorers for the Tigers were Pat Walker (3), Jorge Ramirez (3), Jesus Ramirez, Riley Yerkovich, Tyler Schmill and Cosme Duarte.

The JV team sure knows how to put it on the scoreboard!! 10 goals and 7 vs Green River. If they could play defense, they'd be undefeated.GO TIGERS!!!

Tigers Lose First Round at State

On Thursday May 21st the Tigers squared off against the #1 team in the state, the Cheyenne Central Indians, at the Big Horn Equestrian Center in Sheridan WY. The Tigers had a good strategy and good execution however the Indian were a more talented squad and came away with the victory. The Indians scored in the 7th minute and then sneaked two more goals in right before the half in the 35th and 37th minute. The Tigers down 3 to zero at half regrouped and played hard and inspired in the second half but could not score on the stingy Central defense. The Indians scored their fourth and final goal in the 58th minute. The loss means the Tigers enter into the consolation portion of the tournament and the best they can finish is fifth place at the 2009 State Soccer Cup. The Tigers record falls to ten wins and eight losses. RS Plays Better But Wolves Prevail

On Thursday at Crossroads Park in Rock Springs the RS Tigers faced their arch rivals the GR Wolves in the second leg of the Sweetwater Cup. The Tigers were looking to avenge their earlier embarrassing defeat by upsetting the Wolves. This match was a classic rivalry match and saw the Tigers come to play for 80 minutes. However the Wolves got on the board first when the initial GR shot was saved by Gus Wagner but the deflection found a Wolves' feet and he scored in the 19th minute of play. This was the only score in the first half. The Tigers did see a couple of legitimate chances in the first 40 minutes of play including a header by Alex Arambel. The Tigers game plan seemed to be working as the heavily favored Wolves were frustrated in the 2nd half by the improved play of the Tigers. Then Green River sealed their win by two goal, one in the 61st minute and the other in the 69th minute. Another Tough Opponent Another Loss

On Tuesday in Cheyenne the Rock Springs Tigers played against the East Thunder Bird. East was coming off of a win against their cross town rivals the nationally ranked Cheyenne Central Indians just the week before. The Tigers took the wind in the first half and had their best chances then but were always thwarted by the T-Bird defense. The score at the half was 0 - 0. In the second half the T-Birds used the strong wind to their advantage and scored twice. The goals came in the 47th minute of play and in the 52nd minute of play. The first T-Bird goal was a roofing shot past the keeper from about 25 yards away. The second and last goal of the match was put past the keeper after a scrum in front of the net preceded by a corner kick. The Tigers played hard but could not do what was needed to get close to the East goal. The final score of the match 2 - 0. This drops the Tigers to 1 - 5 - 1.
