Rock Springs Picks up Big Road Wins in Evanston

The Tigers pulled out a victory in Evanston on Wednesday. In a game they were never behind, the RS Tigers got a step closer to an automatic birth at state by defeating the Evanston Red Devils by a score of 4 to 2. Erick Mata scored twice, Ron Halstead added one goal along with Gilbert Gonzalez. For that second seed at regionals, and an automatic birth at state, the Tiger still need to defeat the Star Valley Braves on Friday in Afton and hope that Kelly Walsh either beats or ties Natrona County. Varsity (5 - 5 - 3) The JV Tigers posted their second shutout and downed the JV Devils by a score of 4 to 0. Scorers for the JV Tigers were Matt Lehman, Pat Walker, Christian Mendoza and Riley Yerkovich. Tigers Drop Home Finale to the Trojans

On Saturday the Tigers dropped their final home game to the #1 Kelly Walsh Trojans. The Tigers fell behind 2 to 0 in the first half. Although behind the Tigers never gave up and scored 2 goals in the second half. Unfortunately the Trojans also scored two goals in the second half and bested the Tigers by a score of 4 to 2. Goals for the Tigers were by Seth Hawk (shown in the picture) and Storie Ratcliff . Assists were by Storie Ratcliff and Ron Halstead . The loss keeps the Tigers at third in the conference but in a position were they could pull themselves up to the two seed in the conference and an automatic bid to the state tournament. Varsity (4 - 5 - 3) The JV Tigers fell hard to the JV Trojans by a score of 6 - 1. The players should have brought their ice skates due to ice on the field from the sprinklers that morning. Tigers Tie with Mustangs

On Senior Night, on Friday, the Tigers jumped on top of the visiting Natrona County Mustangs but were not able to finish the game with the win. Erik Stembridge and Austin Mivshek scored in the first half for the Tigers and the Tigers had a 2 to 1 advantage at the half. The Mustangs were able to tie up the game but with ten minutes left Erick Mata put the Tigers in the lead. With just seconds left the Mustangs scored on a corner kick to send the game into overtime. Neither team was able to score in either overtime period and the game ended as a three to three tie. The tie keeps the Tigers at third place in the conference but gives them the tie breaker against Natrona who is currently in second place. Varsity (4 - 4 - 3) The JV Tigers also tied their NC counterparts. The JV games was a zero to zero game. Tigers Shutout the Wolves and Claim the Cup

On Thursday in Rock Springs, the Tigers used a strong defense, a great midfield performance and some timely forward work to down their rivals Green River by a score of 2 - 0. The Tigers took a 1 to 0 lead into the half after a goal by Garrett Hay in the first half. In the second half they added an insurance goal by Ron Halstead. The Tigers won the Sweetwater Cup Traveling trophy for the second straight year with the win over the wolves. This win puts the Tigers into second place in the 4A West Conference race with 2 weeks left to go. Tyler Hamilton got his second shutout of the season while keeping for the Tigers. JV Tigers Sweep Season Series Against GR

On Tuesday, on a cold windy day the JV Tigers won again against the JV Wolves and swept the season series. The Tigers scored three goals in the first half to take a 3 to 0 half time lead, they also added an insurance goal in the second half to win by a commanding 4 to 0 score. The scorers for the Tigers were Jesus Ramirez (2), Storie Ratcliff and Jorge Ramirez. Between the woodwork Fred Prozorov and Dane Dulaney split the clean sheet. Tigers Offensive Explosion Beats the Braves

On Friday, the Tigers showcased their offense with a commanding 7 to 2 victory over the visiting Star Valley Braves. Gilbert Gonzalez had a hat trick in the first half and helped Rock Springs to a 3 to 1 half time lead. The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second half as Kevin Gold, Erick Mata, Ron Halstead and Storie Ratcliff all got a goal. Kevin Gold had three assists, Jack Wells had one, Gilbert Gonzalez also had one assist as did Austin Mivshek and Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers looked very dominant on the pitch and were able to play all of their reserves also. The win brings the Tigers conference record to 3 - 2 and to third place in the conference. They have a chance with a win next week to jump into second place. Varsity - 3 - 4 - 2 In the junior varsity game the JV Tigers scored early and often on the JV Braves and won by a score of 10 to 5. Rock Springs Wins Wild Shootout Versus Evanston

On Wednesday during several snow storm the Tigers were able to get a win in their first home game of the season. The tigers got on the board first with a Garrett Hay goal in just the fourth minute. The devils stormed back and took a 2 to 1 lead. Off of a beautiful free kick Erick Mata evened the score only to see the devils regain the lead 3 to 2 at the half. With a much better second half and an offensive explosion in the first five minute the tigers not only tied the game but retook the lead for good. The first goal was by Ron Halstead and the second was from Gilbert Gonzalez. Varsity - 2 - 4 - 2 The JV version of the tigers tied Evanston 4 to 4. The young tigers were down 4 to 2 at half time and kept the devils off of the scoreboard in the second half while tallying two more goals. Varsity Split games on Casper Road Swing

The varsity RS Tiger soccer squad got their much needed first victory of the season when they defeated Natrona County High in Casper on Friday. Kyle Howe scored the lone goal of the game in the second half with an assist credited to Storie Ratcliff. The Tigers played well in most aspects of the game and Tyler Hamilton recorded his first clean sheet of the season. On Saturday the Tigers were defeated by the defending state champions Kelly Walsh Trojans zero to one. The game was tied at half time and KW used the wind at their back well in the second half. Just three minutes into the second half the trojans scored off of a 30 yard shot. The tigers could not muster much offense into the wind and played well just not well enough to win. Varsity - (1 - 4 - 2) Over the weekend the junior varsity team dropped both games. They lost 0 - 2 to Natrona and 3 - 5 to Kelly Walsh. Tigers fall in OT to Wolves

Rock Springs jumped to an early lead in the first leg of the Sweetwater cup for a 1 - 0 lead in just the first couple of minutes. The Tigers goal was scored by Austin Mivshek with a Kolby Vasa assist. Green River evened up the score shortly after. The Tigers scored again in the first half after an Erik Mata goal from a Kyle Howe assist. At the half the Tigers had a 2 to 1 lead. By the 71st minute the Wolves scored twice to take a 3 to 2 lead. Ron Halstead tied the game up from a Gilbert Gonzalez assist in the 73rd minute. Regulation ended at 3 goals a piece, and the two teams played two 10 minute overtime periods. Green River scored in the first of the two overtime periods and hung on for the rest of overtime and the 4 to 3 win.
